Project Lifesaver helicopter called for missing elderly man. Foundation offers free transmitter to family.
January 12, 2007.
Chesapeake, VA.
An 82 year-old Alzheimer's patient wandered from home sometime between midnight and 7:30 AM this morning in the Hampton Roads, VA area.
While the man was not wearing a Project Lifesaver bracelet, local police nevertheless contacted Project Lifesaver Headquarters, located nearby.
Chief Gene Saunders of Project Lifesaver immediately dispatched search and rescue personnel. In addition, the Chief called up a Project Lifesaver helicopter, piloted by Rick Rahim, to aid in the search.
The man was found alive at 12:17 PM. His family stated they would like to enroll him in the Project Lifesaver Program after this experience. Unfortunately, the cost of the transmitter would be a financial burden to the family. The Project Lifesaver Foundation has provided a transmitter at no cost to the family.
